Bas Meelker Landscape Photography

Yep, It's a panorama. Again. While experimenting with the panoramic format for a while now, I more and more love working with it. It literately broadens your photographic horizon. I visited the National Park Veluwezoom today where the beeches are in full swing at the moment. Spectacular fresh and bright green colors. Especially on a day like today with overcast grey skies and hardly any wind. To make this image called 'Dutch Jungle', I spend a lot of time just walking around without my camera gear, looking for the right angle. Looking for some order in chaos. The big question here is not what to include in the image, but what to leave out. This is a stitched panorama made up out of three horizontal images, taken with a 70-200mm f2.8 at 90mm, f11, 1/2 sec. at ISO 100.

This is a panorama of Lauwersoog Harbour in the Netherlands made up out of 5 vertical shots stitched together. For me, Lauwersoog harbor sits right in the epicenter of a fantastic photographic area.Go west and you will find several triple-A landscape spots at the Wadden coast. Go east and you head into the 'vast open plains' of north-eastern Groningen. Go south and you are right in the center of the Lauwersmeer National Park. And finally to the north to one of the most beautiful Wadden islands, Schiermonnikoog.

I don't talk much about equipment. My equipment has one simple task and one task alone: deliver the best possible image quality. But every now and then something strange happens. It happened with my Canon 24mm TS-E tilt and shift lens. I completely fell in love with it....It has quickly become my favourite lens. It is incredibly sharp and the tilt and shift function gives me a degree of control no other lens can give. Here's an image taken this afternoon with a couple of degrees of shift and one degree of tilt.

Na drie uitverkochte zalen tijdens de Zoom.nl campus van vorig jaar is Bas ook dit jaar weer van de partij. Zowel op zaterdag 16 als zondag 17 juni geeft Bas een masterclass landschapsfotografie. En het gaat wat speciaals worden! Drie uur(!) lang neemt hij je mee in de wereld van de landschapsfotografie.

Wat maakt van een goede landschapsfoto iets speciaals? Wat is nou die persoonlijke inbreng en waar is de jij in jouw foto? Tijdens deze lezing neemt Bas Meelker je mee naar de persoonlijke verhalen achter de landschapsfoto's. Van de basis tot aan de momenten wanneer je als landschapsfotograaf alles uit de kast moet halen. De ideeën, de voorbereiding, de techniek, de hoogtepunten en de teleurstellingen. Ze komen allemaal voorbij.
